Driving excitement has been the proud tradition of Pontiac automobiles since the introduction of the first Pontiac on January 3, 1926 at the New York Automobile Show. The car named for an American Indian chief became unique in GM history, eclipsing sales of its parent model, Oakland, and establishing a first-year sales record. Pontiac has maintained a tradition of styling and engineering excellence throughout its 75 year history, to include such recognisable features as "Silver Streak" "Wide Track" and "Tri-Power".
